HOT SPRINGS, AR – Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Arkansas announces that Crow Construction’s work on the AHTD Tourist Information Center at White River has earned the company first place in the category of Other Construction: Under $5M in ABC’s Excellence in Construction awards competition. Crow Construction will be recognized during the annual ‘Excellence in Construction’ celebration at The Hotel Hot Springs in Hot Springs, AR. on April 7, 2018.
“ABC congratulates Crow Construction for their outstanding work on the Arkansas Tourist Information Center at White River,” said Bill Roachell, ABC Arkansas President. “This project is a true example of exceptional craftsmanship and professionalism that defines merit shop construction. It is an honor for the association to recognize this project with our top construction excellence award.”
Crow Construction President Brian Rohlman said, “We are honored to be recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Arkansas with this prestigious construction industry award. The team who worked on the AHTD Tourist Information Project delivered an excellent product and they are proud of the work they did, this award is a testament to that hard work.”
The completed project contract value was just over $4.9 million and consisted of Demolition of two existing buildings and the necessary asphalt, concrete, and trees to accommodate replacement buildings as well as the construction of five new concrete block buildings with metal roofing and wall paneling.
According to a press release from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD), the new Tourist Information Centers are designed to be unmanned, and are equipped instead with self-service kiosks that feature the AHTD’s travel and construction information site, IDriveArkansas.com. Additional kiosks also provide weather conditions and forecasts as well as information about local amenities including attractions, dining, lodging, and more. The larger buildings also accommodate a greater number of restroom facilities that meet the latest Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, are more family friendly, and feature baby changing stations. The White River Center is one of several centers that were upgraded in 2017. Crow Construction also completed the tourist information center upgrades for AHTD at Big Piney in 2017.
ABC Arkansas designed the Excellence in Construction program to recognize excellent performance in the merit shop construction field. This year’s competition was open to all construction projects completed by ABC member firms during 2017. The winning projects were selected from entries submitted from across the state and were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety, and cost.
